Tower of Cosmic Reflections Teahouse @ Lan Su Chinese Garden | NW Portland

Melanie Wong | Sep 15, 201801:00 AM     2

From the Saturday morning farmers market, https://www.chowhound.com/post/saturd... , I peeled off to visit the Lan Su Chinese Garden. I'd been to the famous garden in Suzhou that was I. M. Pei's ancestral home and thought this would be an apt non-food activity for me. Unbeknownst to me, The Tao of Tea operates the Tower of Cosmic Reflections teahouse inside this classical Chinese garden. So I got a twofer, as well as a taiko drum performance that afternoon.

Peeking inside the teahouse, I was drawn to the traditional seating. But on the first warm afternoon of my visit, the interior felt much too stuffy and I opted for an seat outside to take in more of the garden view.

I ordered Wenshan Baozhong, $5, an oolong tea. This was a lighter style with mild tannins for a smoother mouthfeel.

The server came by several times to ask if I needed more hot water. I had four steepings of my tea and it held up fine. For a light bite, I tried the daikon salad, $5. Nothing wrong with it, but I tired of it quickly. I would order something else another time.
