My co-op board held their meeting last night at Tost (7th Ave bet 14th and 15th St), so I tagged along(hubby is on the board.) We were a party of six. Its a very small space, with a small full bar in the rear and about a dozen small tables. Empty when we arrived at 7, but got pretty full a bit later.
The food is strictly bruschetta ($2 each), salads, and panini ($7 each). A nice selection of wines, several by the glass. They also had a wine tasting "flight", three wines for $12. Service was friendly.
We asked for a selection of bruschetta for the table, to start; all of the ones I tasted were quite good: goat cheese with caramelized onions, portobello mushroom with fontina, proscuitto with fig, some others I can't recall. Spouse and I split a roasted beet, arugula, feta cheese and hazelnut salad which was a generous portion and very tasty. I had the sopresseta, fontina, and arugula panini which was grilled on a nice crunchy bread and served with a small salad garnish. Hubby had speck, fontina, and walnut pesto--but I was so busy gobbling mine, I forgot to taste his. Not much else you can really say about paninis ;-) but everyone seemed to enjoy theirs.
All in all a nice addition to the neighborhood; not a destination place, but a good spot when you aren't in the mood for something more. Its really too bad they don't have any outdoor space, this space is really, really small and I think could be kinda claustrophobic if totally filled.
