After getting a tip from a friend at a Fells Point restaurant, I stopped in a place on Eastern Ave. that makes fresh corn tortilla's.
Near as I can tell, that is all they do.
They sell them by the kilo, still warm, and they cost $1.50. Huge stack. Not sure how this guy makes money.
You pay your $1.50 and walk out with a huge warm bundle wrapped in butchers paper.
Unless the recipe calls for it, my preference typically runs more toward flour tortillas, but these were a revelation.
When they are warm, they have the texture of a flour tortilla but an intense corn flavor. My friends and I ate half the stack without anything else to accompany them.
The shop is open seven days a week but I do not remember the exact hours.
I think is a translated his sign correctly, he sells a great deal of his product to local restaurants, but all are welcome.
Anyone else been there? If not, check it out.
There is also a new Mexican bakery that just opened on the street as well. Really good sweets and a few good breads.
