Ok, as food cravings always seem to go in cycles, I'm currently in a torta craze. In sampling tortas here and in other parts of this lovely country, I've noticed an important fact: just because places otherwise serve great tacos or other mexican food doesn't mean they know how to make a good torta.
Case in point: tortilleria los gemenos (formerly tortilleria el paisano) in port chester - a tristate board fav. They serve good tacos, but terrible tortas. The reason: they can't get the bread right, and that is the key. (on a side note, I've had some very mediocre meals at tortilleria recently. hope it is just an anomoly and not a downhill trend).
So, my question - where are the best places to get tortas in or around south western connecticut or northern westchester county?
I've only tried three places in this area as of yet: Rolando's in Stamford, Tortilleria in Portchester and Cancun Delights in White Plains. Of those three, Rolando's has, by far, the best tortas. The bread is toasted in that flattened, panini sort of way (key) - and is filled with all the right fixins - juicy meat (carnitas in my case), jalapenos, mayo, tomato, etc.
So, what have been your best tortas in or around the area? You input is greatly appreciated.
