My ardor continues for Restaurante Amanecer Tipatio, the new Joliet restaurant with homemade tortillas. I've eaten there three of the last four days. Most notable dish was tortas de cameron con nopales. The two tortas de cameron were the shape of salmon patties and the color of a sweet potato. The breading was a bit spongy to the tooth. The filling didn't bear much shrimp flavor but instead had a metallic tang. However, the softness of the tortas was well contrasted by the almost-crisp diced cactus. The proprietors are from Jalisco but told me the dish is from the state of Tamaulipas. Is Tamaulipasian food rare in the Chicago area?
