Toronto chow finds - Mexican, Cuban, Indian

Just got back to New York from a very chow-ish weekend in Toronto, and wanted to report on some good finds.

First of all, an almost brand-new Mexican place on Bloor Street West called MexiTaco... Our friend who grew up in Mexico ordered for us, and we ended up with some delicious and authentic treats - and even a true Mexican soft drink!

Went to La Carreta on Danforth for dinner... The meat tapas platter was excellent... well priced and enough for four of us to share as a snack... The tamal en hoja was delicious, as was the yuca con mojo... Mojitos were generous and delicious and eating to the sounds of a live Cuban guitarista was lovely.

Also tried Moti Mahal on Gerrard St. E in Little India (?). It was filled with people late on a Sunday night so we figured it had to be good, and it was... We ordered thalis, which were huge. Sag paneer was fantastic, good lassis, masala dosa was good, but could have been more flavorful. Bhel puri was also good. I also recommend corn on the cob with lime and chili powder from one of the vendors in the street... Delicious!

Can't wait to go back...
