Tori Soba @ Orenchi Beyond (SF)

chowhoundX | Jan 28, 2016 12:38 PM

Orenchi Beyond is my current favorite ramen shop in San Francisco proper (though Iza is not super far behind). Anyway, I recently met a friend for lunch at Orenchi Beyond, and because I was in the early stages of a bad cold, I somehow couldn't stomach the regular ramen.

So instead I ordered the tori soba — chicken-based soup (instead of pork) with soba-based noodles (thinner, but still great toothiness — 歯応え — than the ramen noodles) and a thick slice of pork shoulder (not cha shu). Oh, man, this is so great. The most interesting touch is the lemon and pink peppercorns on top, which lend an unusually nice mix of citrus and light spice.

Hard to not order the regular ramen at a place like this, but worth it in my opinion.
