Top Salt Beef Sarnie in Central London

Tony Finch | Dec 2, 2001 03:24 PM

Gaby's on Charing Cross Rd. nr.Leicester Sq. has been there for yonks. They serve pan-middle eastern basics and normally one would walk on by, but because the wife fancied falaffel and we were close by we went there today. The salt beef sandwich was,if not quite a revelation, definitely top notch. They understood that a good salt beef sandwich needs FAT.

Jewish dietry laws mean that a meat sandwich cannot be served with butter.Thin layers of brisket piled high on fresh caraway bread, layered with succulent fat and served hot with mustard is exactly what is required and what was delivered. The falaffel was OK and the laatke was like my old shoe, but the sandwich was the business-a treat for 4 quid.
