The results are below if you wanna skip the appetizer and go right to the main course.
Was aiming for 10 entries. Last minute surge got us up to 9, which is pretty good. A few notes:
-This is by no means scientific
-Many people hadn't tried even all the top recommended places, but we're not food critics with a magazine's budget behind us, plus this bias has it's advantages . . . if you assume most people here solicit advice from other NOLA diners, their dining patterns will be shaped by the larger input of other chowhounds, so will have been steered to 'favorite' spots
-Only 3 people clearly numbered their faves, so I didn't crunch "weighted" numbers. Many said
'no particular order" while others just listed and didn't specify. If you want to go back and say that your list was written 1-10 or 10-1, then I'll check out to see if weighting the lists shakes things up
Started out with 6 lists when I started comparing. My last post prompted 3 more lists, but these did more to level the playing field/confuse things, rather than distance the top vote-getters. Galatoire's was the clear early champion, on 5/6 lists, but didn't budge in the final wave, while Herbsaint enjoyed a late surge. Bayona, Brigsten's, and CP all stayed static, absent on the last 3 lists, while a couple of places surged up to join them.
Jacques-Imo's was on course to become the biggest "no show" on the list, but then was on 2/3 of the final lists. Definitely could win the title as simultaneously most loved and hated spot in the city.
Most notable absence: K-Paul's. Someone below also said Matt & Nadie's doesn't get the respect it deserves, and it got no love on this list either. Any other notable absences?
9 lists. 44 restaurants mentioned. Highest vote-getters barely broke .500 (5 of 9). With 20 single vote-getters, every list averaged 2 and sometimes 3 places on no other list. So variety and agreeing to disagree are the clearest trends. Many said there were too many spots to do a top 10, but that's exactly why it seemed prudent to try and narrow down the field!
