tomato butter/jelly/aspic

Not sure if this should be in home cooking or general chowhounding.

A friend of mine, who grew up in central Pensylvania says his family used to make something they called tomato butter. One of his aunts says should be called tomato jelly, from the way he described it, sounds like what I would call tomato aspic.

If anyone has information on this, including a recipe, I would appreciate it.
