TOMASSO'S in bensonhurst-good but not worth the raves

BrooklynDINER | May 30, 2006 09:58 PM

Read all the posts about this bensonhurst institution and looked forward to my first meal there. Tuesday night-8 pm-only 3 tables dining--hmmm --and they close at 930 pm.

Undaunted, we order dinner and wine.
Firstly--the wine list certainly contains some nice bargains. But it absolutely doesnt contain many barolos and any 1980's vintages (thats what i was looking for). Maybe i was served the wrong wine list?

Portions-nice sized-but far from enormous as many posters described.
Food-quite good-but not up to standards of establishments in little italy.
Service-adequate at best. The very young server never poured wine-refilled water or checked on our food. We had to go find him to get our check. He was quite pleasant etc--but not really attentive by any means.

Would i go back?? possibly--decor, presentation, atmosphere were all pluses--i wasnt as enthusiastic about the rest of the experience. ABOVE AVERAGE-but not worthy of any type of rave.
