I'm an odd ice-cream consumer, since all I ever (and I mean EVER) eat is chocolate. For this reason, I was never a great fan of Peter's. The Chocolate Decadence was too rich. I always felt that the store should have a standard chocolate and that Chocolate Decadence should be the alternate chocolate.
A lot of people think that the way to make a chocolate dessert perfection is just to increase the percentage of chocolate but this is not the case. The best chocolate things have balance, not just intensity.
For my money, there is no better chocolate ice cream than Hagen Dazs.
Ben and Jerry's chocolate is OK, BUT they have excellent hot fudge; the kind that firms up when it hits the ice cream. (Peter's hot fudge did not do this, incidentally.) If I had the guts, I would bring a dish of Hagan Dazs ice cream to Ben and Jerry's and just buy the fudge, the whipped cream, and the walnuts.
