After reporting on the recent tamale crawl, neontima asked if anyone was interested in any other Chowhound get-togethers.
I'm not much in favor of crawls or tours - I'm not a big eater and that makes the prospect of hitting several restaurants in one day less appealing to me, although I don't rule them out completely.
But I've been a part of several get-togethers in the past and not only enjoyed them but found them a good way to learn about a new cuisine or restaurant, which is what chowhounding is all about for me.
As I mentioned in the Where did you eat thread ( http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/8757... ) I tried out an Egyptian place today, Dandanah Cafe and Grill, that is new to me and intend to go back. i thought there might be others who would like to do a little exploring, too.
A few years back, long before the Texas board was split up, the Houston contingent on the board was the most active and adventurous and held many get-togethers. I would like to see a revival of that culture. The most important thing to me is exploring and learning about new cuisines and dishes, rather than just going to places I already know.
If not Egyptian, maybe Peruvian?
Or, there is much I don't know about Chinatown, so much that it's daunting to even suggest where to start, although I have done individual tours in the past seeking the best soup dumplings, Sichuan, and Dan Dan Noodles.
Even BBQ - there are a few places around that are getting good reviews (Corkscrew, Tin Roof, Brooks Place, all on the far north side).
Anybody up for any of these?, or have any others to suggest?
