R & J Toffees (San Jose)

Melanie Wong | Dec 26, 2012 10:07 PM

Among the season's gifts, a one-pound bag of R & J almond toffee. Nice buttery tones, but not nearly the depth and intensity of Enstrom's toffee. Also, the "dark chocolate flavored coating" is made of palm kernel and palm oils, cocoa processed with potassium carbonate, nonfat milk, sorbitan monostearate and soya lecithin emulsifiers, pure vanilla. Not surprisingly, this layer doesn't taste nearly as good as real chocolate and has a waxy, hardness on the palate. But the thin layer of fake chocolate does stay attached to the toffee instead of splintering off.

Available at Costco.

Probably not a retail store, but here's the contact info from the package and the website.
