Simple dinner of rare steaks, broccoli, and salad, with
1995 Côte-Rôtie, "les Dames Brunes," Tardieu-Laurent (Rhône, France): The wine was standing up for a week or so prior to serving; decanted upon opening and served within 10-15 minutes. Pure garnet hues, shading to a bit of brick at the rim, with surprisingly little sediment, clear and clean; the bouquet was a wonderful mix of blueberries, blackberries, white pepper spice, and light earthy notes combined with hints of saddle leather; on the palate, the wine was medium-bodied, silky smooth, supple, and very flavorful -- echoing the qualities of the wine's bouquet; the finish was quite long and flavorful. Absolutely delicious!
