This site about African American business mentioned that TJ's closed in December of 2007.
I remember when it was the hot restaurant so many years ago only to have time pass it by. I wonder if there will be another restaurant there.
Anyway, a few interesting Bay Area restaurants in this link I haven't heard much about.though most are familiar.
Sam Jordan's Bar near Monster Park with a view of the bay is supposed to have fantastic BBQ (but not on Tuesday). There is a terrific review of this place on Yelp. ... one of the few that I've ever voted for.
Monte Carlo also near Monster Park ...let's just call it Candlestick again ... I hate that new name ... anyway ... from the link "Creole cuisine; their specialty plays - before and after football games at Candlestick try any thing with their shellfish and jambalaya;"
Though I have never seen too much positive about it on Chowhound, it seems that Jesso's in Old Oakland is a late night restaurant Wed-Sat ... open till 1am.
Everett & Jones BBQ in Jack London is supposed to have a good Friday happy hour where "barbeque is served almost free"
Then there is Texas Smokehouse BBQ in San Jose located in back of a gas station. The prices are beyond amazing if the website is current ... the place has been opened five years.
Sweet potato pie ... $1.25 ... corn muffins 65 cents (wonder how that prices was determined) ... Tri tip sandwhich $5.50 .. .a tip I found about it on the web ... don't order a side with the sandwich and they give you more meat.
