I was looking for some new salad recipes, something to perk the greens up from same old same old and decided to cruise Epicurious as well as some other recipe sites. Almost every recipe called for basalmic vingar. I'm tired of this. I was in my local Kroger where I used too work as in-store, available for consulting, home ecomonist may years ago and remember people coming in after some luncheon with a guest lecturer who intorduced the stuff and demanding that we carry it. That was the mid-80's and the stuff was harder to find than Minus 8 is today. Yesterday I was in the same store and counted 10 different brands on the shelf. Only 2 red-wine vinegars to choose from, 1 tarragon, 1 champange, and 1 white wine vinegar. Of course there were the generic whites and ciders. What I also find interesting is that the Heinz Apple Cider vinegar in the pint bottle is labled as such but the larger containers are labled apple cider flavored. I have begun relying on my local TJ Maxx for interesting vinegars. Any comments?
