Tips needed for Halifax and surrounding in Winter

kikidi | Feb 9, 201609:07 PM

hello, just booked a last-minute trip for this long Feb 12 weekend to Halifax, where i will be staying downtown. i see some older posts here for restaurant recommendations, but if there are any new places you might recommend to a first-timer, would be greatly appreciated - just looking to get a good feel for the town and surrounding, with respect to both cuisine/culture, in the few days i have.

also looking to rent a car for day trip - any recommendations for a town not more than two hours away? ideally would like to see/eat coastal, but at least a couple of the restaurants i've read about are closed for the season. how common is this? a bonus would be a town with some interesting outdoor activity. i'm not even sure what i mean by that.

looking for recs from street (i've been reading about donairs....interesting...) and up. not particularly restricted on budget, though also not really looking for fine dining, as i'll be solo. my favorites tend toward local favorites with local cuisine.

any other tips for traveling to Nova Scotia in February would be much appreciated!
