I know tipping questions go on the "not about food" board, so here I am.
In L.A. there's a unique liquor and wine purveyor, that sells out of what in any other city would be considered a storage facility. In L.A., we consider them thrifty ;-) At Topline, I typically buy enough wine to warrant a box, and then they offer to carry the box out to my car. The tipping question that I have is this: I know pretty much every time I patronize this store, one of the owners is carrying out my wine. Do I tip him like I would a box boy? Or do I just say thank you? I've tipped when I know the person carrying out my box is staff/akin to a box boy, like during holidays when it's obvious, but during regular times of year, when the owners are doing the carrying, do you tip?
I was always told its offensive to tip an owner, so that is where this is coming from.
