The reservation site frustratingly says that they apply an automatic 20% administrative fee and that tipping is "neither required nor expected." Which is like a wedding invitation that explains, "gifts are not necessary" while offering a link to a registry, just in case. This will be a reach for us, cost-wise. But it'll be no fun at all if, by not tipping beyond the fee, we feel like penny-pinching poor relations.

If you've dined at Stone Barns: did you tip? Did you not-tip? In either case - did you get a sense of what the waitstaff were hoping for, or what was typical?
