Tiny family run places in Chinatown

adrienne | Oct 6, 200504:57 PM

Ok everyone, this is one of those tiny, family-run, or should I say, one-man run take-out bakery places that are struggling to stay up there with the big boys. They have amazing cha siu bao's (steamed and baked) not too sweet inside but still chewy perfect bread on the outside, and if you're lucky or if you're just nice to the owner you can get em' hot! They also have winter melon cakes, even better than the ones at Eastern Bakery in San Francisco and believe me, those WERE my favorite! These ones have large chunks of melon, not too sweet but still chewy and fresh with flakey crusts! They also have the quintessential inexpensive sheet cakes that you see everywhere in chinatown but these are freshly made to order and not laden with sugar and none of that ink flavor from the decorations stays in your mouth and no rancid nuts are used. Here is the address, check it out and let me know what you think!
