Weekend visit coming up, like old timey places, only exploring burgers, pizza, hot dogs, cafeterias, and diners this time. Out of the way? Local favorites? Thanks a bunch!
There are many places a few that are popular
For dogs - D's Sox Pax & Dogs or Frankturary
Diners - Dor-Stop, Gab N Eat, Ritters, Delucas. Some of these are only open in AM and thru lunch.
Pizza - lots of options and opinions...what style. I like Pizziolo Promo or Il Pizziolo but if you are looking for a pizza shop Mineos or Aiellos or Fioris are really popular.
My favorite burger place is Tessaro's in Bloomfield. Fantastic burgers, old building, tin ceiling, great bar, etc... For breakfast you can't beat Gab 'n Eat in Carnegie. Best hot dog experience is the Original Hot Dog Shop in Oakland, or the Dirty O as locals call it. Order dogs at one counter and fries at another. Make sure to get a large order of fries. I don't want you to leave hungry.....
Tessaros for burgers.
Chengdu Gourmet for a fabulous, fabulous crazy experience (yes, you want the takeaway place up for a James Beard award. hole in the wall under a bowling alley, be prepared for the sound of pins)
Yeah, you want the O in Oakland.
There's a greek cafeterialike place in Lawrenceville called Pastitio. recommended.
Ianni's pizza if you're east of the city (it's about an hour's drive, but if you're leaving or coming in...). total dive bar, fabulous pizza (they use 5lb buckets and an open kitchen)
