For over 30 years, the site at 203 W.Valley Blvd. in Alhambra has been associated with Cantonese food, and in particular Hong Kong style seafood. Originally home to Jumbo Seafood, and later NYC Jumbo, The Kitchen, and New Bay Seafood among others, it has been one of the iconic locations for this kind of Chinese food. Consequently even though the West San Gabriel Valley has been by no means immune to the spread of northern regional cuisines and the receding of Cantonese food, the opening of Happy Table appears to be a watershed moment. Happy Table is kind of a mish mosh of regional choices--Sichuan, Dongbei, lots of lamb dishes, beef rolls, onion pancakes, dumplings and more. Only open a few weeks but it was almost full at lunch time.
I do wonder if New Bay fell victim to the rapid rise of Boston Lobster.
