Well, its' official. I'm no longer a Chowhoud virgin.
Despite the absence of Mrs. Ciaohound and my inability to secure a "cheap date" for the evening, I attended my first Chowhound event at the LimsterFrest dinner at Kirin restaurant last night.
I especially enjoyed meeting Limster, and his engaging personality made it obvious to me the reason for the LimsterFest. What a nice fellow. If you haven't met him and there are spaces at any remaining LimsterFest events, do yourself a favor, sign up and meet him before he leaves next month.
Melanie did a great job providing a Riesling smorgasboard, explaining the subtle nuances of German wine, the regions and the producers. The bevy of gorgeous Rieslings were unbelievable.
I-Han (Chibi), Jason, Ruth, Millicent & Scott, Dianna (Windy), Peter Yee, Scott (Shocker), Derek and yours truly rounded out the group.
Everyone was so friendly, knowledgable, and fun to be with. Fantastic price for so many (many new to me) wonderful dishes, beautiful wine, and apparently we did a pretty good job raising $$$ for Chowhound.
We even agreed to "lift our legs" to the Big Dog at one point, but more on that in the Wine Review.
Thanks to my personal server, Shocker for keeping my plate and glasses full and helping me spell "taffeta."
And thanks to ALL for drawing me into the Chowhound family. Next time I hope to be able to meet with each of your more personally. It was a bit loud and hard for me to hear all the "gossip" on the other side of the table. With my stressful avocation as Wine Scribe, my priorities (big mouth) were not their usual self.
Buon Appetito and see you again soon, it was a blast.
