I will be coming to chicago from nyc for a week starting friday (staying in Evanston for half of it and U of Chicago the other). I've never been so am planning to hit a bunch of the uniquely chicago places...as I won't really have access to a car and only have addresses instead of neighborhoods for most of these places, can anyone tell me if these places are doable by El or foot? (I don't mind walking a lot especially if it's in an interesting area)after a search through your very impressive board, here's what I got.
Nuevo Leon and Maxwell St. Market (maybe Frontera Grill or Chilpacingo)for mexican
Al's for Italian Beef
Lou Malnati's for deep dish (I know it has multiple locations)
Hot Doug's (reopening this weekend?), Superdawg, and Wiener's Circle for dogs (are these three doable in a hot dog crawl or too far away from each other?)
Harold's Chicken and Evanston Chicken Shack for uhh...chicken
Manny's (not sure if I need to fit in a good deli as I'm from nyc but heard it's a unique chicago institution)
some place to get a polish sausage and a beer (any recs? the Berghoff? or any other historic chicago bars?)
wishbone or toast for breakfast
University of Chicago Hospital for Heart Pump?
thanks in advance and looking forward to visiting,
