Hi all. Have been looking through this board and find the choices almost overwhelming.
Here's our scop - two foodie friends coming to visit Chicago for first time in mid-July. We're from Montreal and have 4 days and 3 nights. Received a bunch of recs from friends and colleagues. Montreal has great French and Québécois restaurants but we're weaker on street food and high-end ethnic food. We like places with great food, a cool and not stuffy vibe (not much for white linen service) and an excellent wine list. Assume we're prepared to spend $100 to $125 pps for dinner, wine and service included. Staying at Westin on North Michigan.
Would appreciate your views on the following recs received to date:
- Gibson's for a real steakhouse meal
- Purple Pig, but concerned about wait time
- Girl and the Goat
- The Publican
- Big Star for tacos.
Also, my friend insists on trying an authentic Chicago deep dish pizza. Any views on Pequods vs. Lou Malnatis vs. others?
Would also appreciate views whether Frontera Grill is really wotrth going to. I've seen Rick Bayless on TV for years and Montreal does not do great Mexican so I'm very tempted, but is it worth an evening there?
Any other interesting suggestions are welcome. We don't mind spending money on cabs for a great meal and evening.
Thanks in advance. Excited to visit your beautiful city.
