First time at Cafe Spice

We went to Cafe Spice last night for the first time. Awesome. We had avoided it because it seemed too "in" and expensive for Indian, but I think it's definitely worthwhile for what you get. We started with a potato cake appetizer (ragda patties) -- two cakes resembling crabcakes (but potato and peas only, plus spices), with a wonderful selection of sauces artistically dolloped around them, and surrounded by whole cooked chickpeas coated with something wonderful. Then our entrees appeared -- large platters with salad (terrific combination of greens, slivered cukes, onions, tomato) and rice, and a mid-size fiesta-type bowl of the selected entree (we had lamb nilgiri -- a lamb/coconut curry and shrimp bhuna in a red onion-based curry sauce), and small bowls of lentil dal and a wonderful potato concoction (which we did have to send back to be heated a bit more). Sort of Indian home fries. Entrees also come with excellent nan. Every single item was terrific. We'll definitely be back.
