First Time in Amsterdam

My wife and I will be taking a train to AMS from Paris the first week of December for two nights at the Intercontinental. Know nothing about this city and would love recommendations for two dinners within walking distance. First night can be local or continental---we are from a culinary family and appreciate the work of great chefs. Second night must be casual (even sandwiches will do) as we leave early the next morning. Days will be filled with museums and, weather permitting, walking. Any good coffee and pastry?
