A month or so ago, Tim Carman wrote about the Korean smoked-after-fried chicken in his Casual Diner article in the Washington Post. The popular chain in Korea is Choong Man, and there are now a few branches in our area, though apparently not particularly standardized in the cooking method.

I've been curious about it and stopped in to the Annandale one for lunch. I didn't end up staying since the $8 lunch special didn't include the tikku-style and the regular menu portions were bigger and more expensive ($13-15 depending on the sauce, for an order of wings). They do, however, have a happy hour special from 2 to 5 PM offering 5 wings, any style including tikku, for $5. So some day soon I'll take a later lunch and give it a shot.

Since I haven't seen any talk about this chicken style around here, I thought I'd hoist a flag and see if anyone has saluted yet.

The chain Choong Man specializes in tikkudak, but some outlets in the area can’t seem to nail it.
