Thurston's vs. Beals

Sandi | Aug 31, 2001 10:00 AM

We're heading out on Sunday for a week-long road trip traveling around New England. We'll be in Bar Harbor for three nights so we can explore Acadia National Park. I've read through many of these threads and gotten lots of ideas, but wondered if anyone could please tell me which Lobster place-- Thurston's or Beal's-- they prefer and why since even in the guidebooks, there seem to be differences of opinion. (I know some are ticked that Beal's charges for drawn butter.)

We aren't interested in eating whole lobsters and wondered what other seafood-specialties etc. you could recommend. (I know-- It's tantamount to blasphemy not to eat whole lobster when in Maine-- I just can't get past their beady eyes and tentacles, and happen to be partial to lobster rolls anyway...)
