I went to Aki, which is a very small Japanese under Jamaican influence place in the West village, about 2 weeks ago. The chef used to be the private shef to the Japanese ambassador to the West Indies. I only eat one meal there, and need to go back to get a better opinion. But for some reason my mind and my palatte keeps return ing to this place. To put this in perspective, in the last 3 weeks I have eaten at Aki, SUgiyama, Nobu, Sushi Samba, Sushi Yasuda and Lupa, and quite frankly the food at Aki stands out as rather unique. It was just really interesting, strange combinations of food that really worked. I am not going to give a full bore description because I have to go back at least one more time, but I was wondering if anyone else had an opinion, one way or the other.
