Thirsty Scholar

Had an early dinner at the Thirsty Scholar (unbelievably, my first time there). Started off with two pints of very decent Guinness. I ordered the mussels in spicy cream broth and curry fries and he had the burger. I found the mussels quite delicious (although, admittedly, it's a dish that's difficult to mess up) and the accompanying crostini was perfectly toasted (grill marks, enough burnt smokiness to make them flavorless and perfect to sop up the broth). The broth had some bite to it, which we appreciated, given our love of all things spicy. The curry fries were tasty. The curry was served in a separate crock and was warm. The fries were a nice vehicle for the sauce (I like more skin on my fries, but I did manage to eat most of an entire basket). He liked his burger well enough, but for the fact that he ordered it medium well and got it medium rare. He didn't want to return it, though and did eat it all. According to him, the spicy fries that he got were also good (I refrained from trying them). One more Guinness each and we were ready to head home. One side note -- the music was a bit random. From butt-shaking hip hop to Modest Mouse. Hmmm....In any case, we will be back. Appears to be a great weekday dinner we're-too-tired-to-cook kind of place.
