Thanksgiving weekend – birthday dinner suggestions needed

Debbie W. | Oct 27, 2005 01:28 PM

I’m going crazy trying to think of a place for one of my birthday dinners. This will be on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, and it will be me + husband + my parents who are in their 70’s. Location can be anywhere between Santa Monica/Venice and downtown. Open to any type of food.

(Yes, I know that Thanksgiving weekend isn’t the best restaurant weekend, but that’s when my birthday is. At least my actual birthday isn’t on Thanksgiving this year, like it is some years.)

***Two important caveats: 1) my stepmom has hearing issues, so the restaurant can’t be too noisy, but it has to be fun, not stuffy; and 2) the restaurant must have hard liquor, as the folks are into Scotch and martinis, not wine.

Last year we went to Josie, the year before to Grace. I’d like it to be less expensive than those, if possible. Husband is taking me to Providence separately, so that’s out. We recently went to Lucques for Sunday night supper with the folks, as well as to The Grill on the Alley, so those are out, as is Jiraffe since husband and I recently dined there.

I’ve thought of Chameau but am wondering how noisy it is. Also, I haven’t been to Jar since the remodel, and per the website the prices are fairly high - is the food worth it?

Thanks for any suggestions.
