I'm a far, far away from home Thanksgiving veteran. I mean it is that special Thursday in November and to everyone else I'm with it is just another work day.
I'm quite sympathetic to people away from family and two-people-and-a-turkey. It is not a holiday of seperateness but togetherness. So our table always include some new friends I've looked around and found.
In this spirit, we also invite a pair of recruits from Great Lakes Naval Station. These are young people away from home for the first time going through basic training. If we did not invite them, then they would spend their Thanksgiving doing light drills and a turkey dinner.
I just phoned this morning to Great Lakes at 847/688-2445 or 847/688-2405. Deadline to invite is November 15th --- thank goodness I didn't push this off to next week!
If it is not a recruit, then why not invite someone in your circle of friends who would otherwise spend this holiday alone.
All the Best,
