Thanksgiving in DC

I will visit my grown(more or less) son in DC for Thanksgiving. Am I correct that this should not be a busy time in the District and that I should be able to get reservations without a problem?
Here is where I'd like your help -
We may attempt to cook the big bird, but if not, where should we go for a special holiday meal in the afternoon?
I would like to take my son and his girlfriend for a wonderful meal on Saturday - either lunch or dinner - We've been to Kinkead's and several other less memorable places - Citronelle is probably too expensive unless it is going to be a lot better than anything else - and the kids don't like sushi or ethnic, unless you count French and Italian!
Are any of the really good restaurants open for lunch and are they less expensive then?
Sorry for all the questions, but I would be really grateful for suggestions.
