We had a great weekend- thanks so much to this board and all the subsequent blogs, websites, menupages ideas I was then linked to by reading this board.
My husband and I got to Penn Stattion Saturday at 12:00 starving, and not being able to check in at our Bryant Park Hotel, we went to Times Square to pick up tickets and then we got the phone call at 1:00, that our room was ready- just as we passed
Celebrity Deli- Picked Up Corned Beef and Swiss to split in hotel - perfect!
Spent afternoon in Chelsea Market area and world trade center- had to bail on double decker due to cold.
Grand Central Station - Oysters- Fun and Good
Grammercy Tavern - Execellent Food and wondeful atmosphere- walked in with no reservation. Wonderful drinks.
Woke up Saturday and cabbed to Balthazaar around 10:00. Had the best meal of the weekend. The tart was amazing. My eggs were poached over polenta, with panchetta, melted tomatos, portabellos- awesome- hubby was equally happy with poached eggs over smoked salmon. Thanks to your blue laws we were not able to have a bloody mary - which really was a good thing for the day ahead and the reasonable bill.
As it was are intention to eat at the Papaya King we decided to walk from Spring Street to MOMA (53rd) and then to 86th East over six or seven block to the Papaya King to hope we would be hungry by then.
After MOMA and then the brisk walk further north we were ready for our hotdogs. We split the special. My husband loved them.
We walked back to 40th street at about 5:00. We covered over 150 blocks that day in 30 degree weather. We were dressed in many layers. Lots of window shopping.
We went to the Red Cat, walked in at 8:30 and sat at the bar and had the Spinach Salad which was wonderful. The bacon was tempured, the egg was baked-the effect- delicious. My husband swooned over the steak tartare. We split the shell steak which was wonderful- but always agree at the end of the meal that with a menu this interesting we must stop ordering steak.
We woke up the Monday morning and had a bagel and scallion cream cheese at the Pax at th end of the street. Very good everything bagel- lots of scallions in the cream cheese. On our way out that early afternoon we had a plain cheese pizza at Patsy's Harlem. I love NY pizza.
Thanks again to all for your ideas- especially for my jeans clad, ultra trendy adverse husband - who really had a good time.
