Has anyone tried Thanh in Irvine?
I want to diversify my Vietnamese restaurant choices without going to Westminster.
With Thanh, that makes the count of Vietnamese restaurants in Irvine to three. The other two; Pho 99 and Pho Bac.
I've tried Pho 99 on Jeffrey and Walnut. The food is good, but I haven't been back because of the bad service we got after a long wait for a table.
My favorite currently is Pho Bac on Barranca near Culver. Their rice dishes with charbroiled pork, pork/egg cake, and shredded pork is a steal at $6.45. The charbroiled pork is tender and flavorful and the dish is always served with a side of hot broth and cucumber, tomato, and lettuce garnish. It's a little more expensive than most places at Westminster, but in my opinion, every bit as good. Their house special noodle soup is also quite tasty. It is their biggest bowl, filled with a sweet and savory pork and chicken broth, with made from scratch meatballs, shrimp, bits of pork, thin egg noodles, fried onion, cilantro, and topped with a fried wonton skin. The staff is a model of efficiency and are always topping off my ice water cup. They even take 10% off the bill with a student I.D.
