Thai'N I Barbequed Pork Ribs

Hershey Bomar | Jul 13, 200302:11 PM

Thai'N I is a Thai place with all the Kai's, Pad's and Pa-Nangs you’d expect. But in the window is a guy grilling huge slabs of pork ribs and chicken quarters. The ribs aren't the tiny Poo-Poo platter variety, they aren't a midsized Phillips rib, these are the colossal kind served up the street at Doctor Hogly Wogleys. A full order or ribs, 10 of em, is $16.

The menu describes the ribs as marinated in ginger, garlic, and Thai spices, then smoked. This is true to an extent. They are marinated before cooking so the sweet sugary gingery marinade does burn a little during cooking, which some people like. And for smoking I'm not sure they're really smoked, but maybe just grilled and steamed, but if you don't like your Q smoky then this is fine.

The chicken, which I should have tried, is marinated in coconut milk, garlic, cilantro, and Thai spices then barbequed. A whole chicken is $10.

I’d like these ribs better if they were spicy. I don't really ever crave sweet ribs but these were interesting. I'll go back, eventually.

Thai'N I is located at 17544 Ventura Blvd, a few blocks west of Louise, right before Versailles. You cane order ahead or get free five mile delivery, 818-783-thai. There not open till three on Sundays. There’s parking in the back.
