Thai on the Road - Central Illinois

We had the most amazing Thai dinner last weekend at Bangkok Thai in Efffingham, which is located in central Illinois where I-57 and I-70 intersect.

The central theme here is FRESH! Fresh basil, fresh garlic, fresh ginger permeated the dishes we chose including Ginger Beef and Basil Chicken. The sauces for the chicken satay, cucumber salad, crispy egg rolls, and pot stickers were light and flavorful. Five dishes, including an awesome Pad Kee Mao, plus a few appetizers left the six of us very well-fed. The rice that came with the meals was a bit skimpy, but the waitress brought us more without a problem.

The atmosphere is very casual and the servce is super friendly. When we mentioned that our son had just turned thirteen, the owner ran to kitchen and came back with a can of lychees as a gift for the birthday boy!

I noticed a sign for $4.95 lunch specials, but didn't read on since we were there around 7ish.

When we're back through Effingham, we will make this restaurant our dinner stop---it's too good to pass up and the upbeat atmosphere is a welcome bonus.
