Thai lunch at Racha Cafe

Cynthia | Nov 22, 2004 07:13 PM

Racha Cafe has been at the 771 Ellis location for nine years, owned by the Wongs. It was previously located on the other side of Polk Street and has a 30-year history in SF. Every table was filled for Monday lunch with counter seating for the single diner. Full plates of the rice and spicy ground chicken left the kitchen for many of those tables.
For $17.50 we had two hot cups of Thai tea, the fragrant claypot of rice, sausage, chicken, and mushrooms and the ala carte order of spicy calamari with fresh bamboo shoots. The rice in the claypot was crusty with goodness and full of the flavors of the sausage, chicken, shitake mushrooms, and shrimp. The large rings of calamari and the bamboo shoots were tender and spicy - well doused in chili oil and fresh slices of jalapenos - for a hearty lunch.
