Thai Lagoon, Elmhurst -- Burgers?

Eric Eto | Apr 6, 2005 02:45 AM

I was at Thai Point grocery/video/snack shop on 39th St just down the block from Sripraphai, when I noticed a stack of menus for a newish Thai place in Elmhurst, called Thai Lagoon. Seems Thai Point has some affiliation with this new restaurant, which according to Google maps, is located across from the Pan American Hotel on Queens Blvd, and just down the hill from the Thai temple. Seems like an OK menu, albeit a bit on the pricey side. $12.95 for pad thai, for instance. But what really caught my eye is the appearance of the Thai Hamburger ($7.50) on their menu (as opposed to the regular hamburger for $6.95). If any of you have read the LA board from a few years back, one of the contenders for best burger in LA was a Thai place in the Silverlake district called Thai American Experess, and I was a big fan of those burgers. Unfortunately, Thai American closed its doors about a couple years back, disappointing many LA hounds. Well, I'm not sure what to expect at Thai Lagoon, or what might be the affinity between Thai restaurants and burgers, but I'm willing to check this out, especially if it can approach the burgers from the defunct LA joint. If any of you hounds have any info to share on this place, let us know.
