Thai in Austin...perplexed

Texplant | Jul 17, 2005 10:59 PM

I went to Thai Kitchen on Guadalupe today, buoyed by the many good reviews on citysearch.com, and it was absolutely awful. I am amazed that this place is in business, let alone receiving accolades. It had a sign on the wall that it was named Austin Chronicle's best Thai 2004. I find this extremely perplexing considering the food was the worst Thai I've ever eaten, and the restaurant was dirty. The wall against the booth we sat in looked like it had never been wiped down ever. It had food and sauce bits all over it. The air conditioner vents were black with dirt. I don't mind a hole in the wall if the food can make up for it, but in this case, it just added to the miserable meal.
Any recommendations or insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
