Thai-Am 2 - Madeira Beach

Coyote | Apr 25, 200408:18 AM

Found myself in Madeira Beach and normally would have lunched at Dockside Dave's but had just had a grouper sandwich at Frenchy's the day before. SO, spotted a non seafood choice, Thai-Am 2, and decided on the stumble in method of selecting a restaurant.

Some Thai restaurants run lunch specials only during the week and I was pleased to see that this spot made no change to prices on the menu on weekends. Included in the cost was a small bowl of garlicky chicken noodle soup, and what they called a fried wonton. The wrapper was actually folded over to look rather like an egg roll, and the filling was kind of a meat and veggie combination, very pleasant. We each were served two of these, with a nice sweet dipping sauce. We split Pad Thai, a very acceptable version with several shrimp and plenty of chicken, not gloppy or overly sweet, enlivened by a wedge of lime for squeezing. A red curry with pork was equally good, and medium was quite spicy enough, thank you very much.

The service was extremely slow, but the waitress so friendly and nice it somehow didn't really matter. Pleasant and clean spot, nice bathrooms. Also, there is free parking, which in a beach community is a plus.

$11 plus tip for lunch for two.

Thai-Am 2 Restaurant is at 14363 Gulf Blvd., John's Pass Village, Madeira Beach, FL 33708; Tel. (727) 398-9700.
