I had another excellent light pre-theatre supper here. Snails and bacon on toast came bathed in a delectably green parsley and garlic sauce. The bitter leaf salad was copious and had a dressing that was both sharp and creamy. My friend was not so thrilled with her leek and potato soup which came with cheese instead of the menu's bottarga. The waiter did apologise for not telling her in advance. Her blue cheese, endive and walnut salad was very good. We shared a pear and almond tart with exemplary crisp pastry.
The wine was so-so - our fault I guess for choosing the cheapest red on the half-litre carafe list (£14.50).
The atmosphere was buzzy and lively. I rather love their little French wine jokes: at the door there's a sign reading 'Attention: chenin mechant'.
