Terrific New East Village Falafel

eca | Dec 17, 200612:45 AM

I was walking with some friends on e 4th st when I spotted a new middle eastern place. It is in a small place between 1st and 2nd (near 1st). Unfortunately, I can't remember the full name of the place but it is something like Taj xxmalouk (first two letters I don't know). The place was empty and had a cool middle-eastern decor including the requisite hookahs. They have a small menu, but I was really only interested in the falafel on this visit.

The falafel balls are cooked to order and taste very fresh and light, similar to Taim. What really made this falafel stand out was the bread. It is made with lavash, rather than the ubiquitous pita. I love the soft chewy texture of this kind of bread. It is a little bit pricier than the other falafel options out there at $5 per sandwich, but I think it is worth it. I've had to revise my personal falafel rankings with this place now number one ahead of Taim, followed by Chickpea. The space is much nicer to eat in than either of those two to boot!
