The days of four parties in one nite on New Year's Eve seem to be over, so the last few years have been nice dinners out. We went with the 3 course/glass of champagne $49 meal at Temple Bar in Cambridge. Except they kind of screwed us saying the champagne wasn't until party favor time around midnite which we were not there for. So it wasn't a super bargain but was actually quite good, and service was 100% better than the one other time I was there. It's a cool room with a big bar, comfy seats, pretty dark (par for the course). My friend had corn and shrimp chowder and filet w/ a risotto cake. The soup was slightly thicker than I like but it was very good and his steak and starch were perfect. I had duck confit w/ sweet potato hash and greens which was a huge app that I could have easily had for an entree. The duck had a yummy Chinese taste to it, the hash was good. My tuna entree needed a little more sauce but was decent. The side of parsnips was underdone so I concentrated on the little carrots. We both had giant slabs of tiramisu for dessert which came with some chocolate pieces. I have no specific requirements for tiramisu, I don't think this was traditional with ladyfingers and all that, but it tasted good. Had a drink at the Casablanca bar before and the food there looked great (had never been). Ended at the Rialto bar, it was a nice civilized nite and Temple Bar redeemed itself from my previous visit.
