Teevy Cafe (Cambodian) - Closed

Rene G | Jul 28, 200303:10 PM

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like Teevy Cafe, Chicago’s only Cambodian restaurant, has closed. They haven’t been answering the phone recently and when I went by the other evening there was a For Sale sign in the window. I didn’t see any other signs or notes posted.

I feel especially bad because I had been hoping to organize a special dinner there but had been too busy recently. They really could have used the business and the exposure to new customers. The family that ran Teevy were the nicest people imaginable and I wish them well.

It’s shocking how many restaurants have been closing recently. About a month ago I made a visit to a South Side neighborhood to try some places I’d been meaning to go to. Three interesting places within about 4 blocks were shuttered (I’m not naming them at the moment because I’m not certain they’re all permanently closed). Let me urge everyone to get out and support all the worthy little places. Don’t just limit yourselves to restaurants reviewed in the Tribune or Sun-Times or even the ones discussed here.
