I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like Teevy Cafe, Chicagos only Cambodian restaurant, has closed. They havent been answering the phone recently and when I went by the other evening there was a For Sale sign in the window. I didnt see any other signs or notes posted.
I feel especially bad because I had been hoping to organize a special dinner there but had been too busy recently. They really could have used the business and the exposure to new customers. The family that ran Teevy were the nicest people imaginable and I wish them well.
Its shocking how many restaurants have been closing recently. About a month ago I made a visit to a South Side neighborhood to try some places Id been meaning to go to. Three interesting places within about 4 blocks were shuttered (Im not naming them at the moment because Im not certain theyre all permanently closed). Let me urge everyone to get out and support all the worthy little places. Dont just limit yourselves to restaurants reviewed in the Tribune or Sun-Times or even the ones discussed here.
