Tea smoked duck - anything specific I should know

Bob found this recipe in Smoke & Spice and we're starting it today to smoke tomorrow.

They seem to really cover the bases but I'm wondering if anyone has found generic idiosyncracies when smoking duck. I note that it doesn't mention piercing the skin but does mention discarding the greasy liquid after steaming so obviously the steaming must do the job on that. As always, I appreciate any advice. TIA.
