Tax on the Purchase of Coffee Bean Bag

feed_the_pig | Mar 21, 201507:52 PM     6

I purchased a 12oz bag of coffee beans from Portola Coffee Lab. I didn't realize that they charged me tax until I got home.

Any tax experts out there? Is a bag of coffee beans (not used or consumed at the shop) taxable? The beans are roasted so I wonder if that has anything to do with the tax complications.
