Tavares - Brazilian food in San Francisco

Cynsa | Jun 8, 2016 03:31 PM

An impromptu lunch on a sunny afternoon seems made for Brazilian fare at Tavares.

San Francisco, CA 94103

Surrounded by plates of burgers/fries - we opted to share from the Lunch menu inspired by this São Paulo/San Francisco restaurant:
Saudade - two beef empanadas with black beans, a garnish of queso fresco and a drizzle of avocado-cilantro sauce. $12
My Rio - salad of chickpeas, faro, barley, tomato, apples, cucumber, dill, mint, with a Lemon Dressing on the side $12
Tropicalia - tilapia on banana leaf with bean sprouts, lemon grass, red palm oil with a coconut milk sauce and a side salad of heart of palm/pupunha $19

Tropicalia

My Rio

Terry Gilliam's 1985 movie, Brazil, seeded dreams of Brazil...then feasting on the novels of Jorge Amado added more colorful dreams... Tavares is a close reach for a simple taste of pupunha or farofa.
